Suki leads a rapidly expanding ambient AI market on the athenahealth Marketplace

Alsgaard-Miller is an independent healthcare technology analyst who maintains a longitudinal database tracking every partner on the athenahealth Marketplace. Suki AI, Inc. commissioned and paid for Alsgaard-Miller to analyze its existing Marketplace data and write this report. All editorial control and final content choices, however, remained strictly with the author to maintain independence and factual accuracy.

Ambient documentation has become one of the fastest-expanding segments of the athenahealth Marketplace. As of July 30, 62 partners offered ambient documentation products, yet one company has established a significant lead: Suki.

Suki, an athenahealth Marketplace member since 2017, now leads the ambient documentation category in both total practices connected and practices added during the four-month analysis period. The analysis in this article examines the ambient documentation category and Marketplace growth from March 31 through July 30, 2026. Suki connects to 602 athenahealth practices, representing 22% of all practice connections in the category.

The distance between Suki and its closest competitors is substantial. The next five ambient documentation partners connect to between 184 and 240 practices each. Suki therefore has more than 2.5 times the practice footprint of the next-largest partner in the category.

Suki leads the four-month growth trajectory, signaling momentum

Scale alone doesn't tell the whole story. Over the four months through July, Suki added 45 practices, more than any other ambient documentation partner, ahead of CarePilot's 40 and DeepCura's 30. That growth is notable because Suki began the period from a considerably larger base.

Two competitors grew faster in percentage terms, but from much smaller footprints. CarePilot added 20% on a base of 200 practices, while DeepCura more than doubled from 23 to 53 practices. Suki's 45 additions came on top of an already category-leading footprint, allowing it to slightly widen its absolute lead.

In other words, the largest ambient documentation partner on the Marketplace is not simply defending its position. It is continuing to add more practices than its competitors.

Ambient is the fastest-growing category in the Marketplace

Suki's growth is occurring against the backdrop of an unusually fast-moving market.

Among partners already live on March 31, ambient documentation recorded more net new practice connections than any other Marketplace category during the window. Since January 2024, 40 ambient documentation partners have joined. That’s more than in any category except revenue cycle management. Of those 40 entrants, 29 had fewer than ten practices as of July 30. Only AI voice agents, which handle inbound and outbound phone calls, had a higher share of recent entrants.

Against that backdrop, Suki's position is particularly notable. It leads a field of 62 ambient documentation partners by a wide margin, continues to add more practices than any competitor, and ranks among the ten largest partners across the entire athenahealth Marketplace.

Methodology

Alsgaard-Miller tracks public athenahealth Marketplace listings over time. This analysis compares Marketplace snapshots from March 31 through July 30, 2026.

Athenahealth reports customer counts at the partner-contract level rather than the product level. When a company has multiple listings that share the same count, they are treated as one partner instead of being added together. Counts for individual partners are described as practices. Totals across partners are described as practice connections because one practice may use multiple vendors.

These figures measure Marketplace connections, not providers, revenue, or active product use. A practice may represent one physician or a group with several hundred providers. The figures also exclude each company’s footprint on other EHRs and customers using athenahealth’s embedded Ambient Notes product. The value of the metric is consistency: every partner is measured using the same public source on the same dates.
